Mastering Challenges Together

Navigating the energy transition in passenger transport and logistics successfully requires highly efficient drivetrains. The escalating electrification of the drivetrain is crucial technologically. However, for holistic sustainability, modern drivetrains should be environmentally friendly throughout their life cycle, from manufacturing to recycling, supported by stable and efficient supply chains.

Different markets will undergo change at varying rates, influenced by local legislation, infrastructure and application profiles. Driving pleasure continues to be a key purchasing factor, requiring a diverse range of drivetrain architectures.

Meeting these requirements presents challenging tasks across various sub-disciplines, including system design, electrical engineering, electronics, mechanical engineering and control technology. At Dritev, our goal is to explore how to tackle these challenges and discuss the products that will emerge in drivetrain, battery and charging systems as a result.

Looking Back at Dritev 2023: Actively Shaping the Transformation of Mobility

On July 5th and 6th, 2023, Dritev, a premier international congress for experts in automotive drive technology, drew around 600 participants to the Congress House in Baden-Baden. Industry professionals exchanged ideas on how to successfully navigate the ongoing transformation process and addressed questions such as: Which technologies will define various mobile application areas in the future? And what implications does this have for vehicle manufacturers and suppliers?

Quality content

The meticulously assembled 2023 program served as the core of the congress, featuring over 50 international presentations by distinguished speakers. In his keynote, Benjamin Krieger delved into the importance of upcoming regulatory requirements and conveyed the supplier association CLEPA’s perspective on the widely discussed EURO 7 standard. He advocated that this standard is a notable progression from EURO 6 and warrants swift implementation. Alexander Krick from Volkswagen Group Components offered insights into the development of a pulse inverter in-house, illuminating ways to improve the efficiency and performance of electrified drivetrains. Julian Fieres of ZF Friedrichshafen stressed that embracing transformation is essential for companies. To circumvent failure during transformation processes, avoiding common pitfalls and following a clear, active, and sustainable strategy is vital. In the commercial vehicle segment, Christian Gropp of Daimler Truck underscored the variance in drive concepts based on use case. He pointed out that fleet operators would only invest in carbon-neutral trucks if they prove to be economically competitive.

Diverse networking opportunities

The presentations were augmented by an exhibition where over 60 international exhibitors displayed innovative solutions and products. Manufacturers showcased current vehicle concepts and the incorporation of various drivetrain solutions at the accompanying Auto Salon. Attendees actively engaged in technical discussions about the present state of technology and seized the numerous networking opportunities, which extended into the evening event at the Kurhaus Baden-Baden.

Congress Program Comittee

The VDI is known for sophisticated technology and quality. Particularly these attributes in the further education of engineers provide the groundwork for our congresses, conferences and seminars.

The program committees, comprising of industry and research representatives, help us realize these goals and choose topics and lectures that are as relevant as possible in industry practice. The ladies and gentlemen in the program committees are your “voice“ when it comes down to bringing an event in line with your needs.

Likewise, the VDI Congress “Dritev” is professionally supported by a program committee. In addition to Germany’s top OEMs, the committee is made up of key industry and research representatives.

At this point we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all members for their long years of honorary commitment.

VDI-GPP

The VDI-GPP and its technical divisions provide all sectors with verified knowledge on the design of products and processes and their optimization in terms of quality and the time- and cost-benefit ratio.
This verified knowledge covers the entire product lifecycle, from the product idea and product development, marketing and service to recycling using optimized methods, tools and systems, including the necessary information technology.

This ensures the successful connection of market and technology for the purpose of sustainable growth and profit. The VDI-GPP – as the largest technical division in the VDI – provides a platform for specialist discussion and cooperation ranging from the technological state of the art and continuous improvement to trends in development. The task of the VDI-GPP is to concentrate the extensive range of services of the VDI in these fields, display them in summary and constantly improve them. This also includes the lively exchange of ideas with other VDI societies.

The activities of the society are planned and coordinated by an advisory board staffed with decision-makers working on an honorary basis. The secretariat is located in the VDI building in Düsseldorf. Besides the main secretariat, the regional chapters, which take care of the VDI members in their own areas, include work groups active in the field of product and process design.

The VDI society product and process design (GPP) consists of 8eight technical divisions:

  • Information Technology
  • Sales Engineering and Product Management
  • Value Management and Value Analysis
  • Project and Process Management
  • Safety and Reliability
  • Vibration Technology
  • Product Development and Mechatronics
  • Mechanism Design and Machine Elements

VDI-FVT

The VDI Society for Vehicle and Transport Technologies, VDI-FVT in short, has around 28,000 members that are affiliated to at least one of its 8 technical sections. This makes it the second biggest of the VDI’s dedicated societies. VDI-FVT is the community for engineers working in the vehicle industry, as well as for engineers dealing with transport and traffic outside manufacturing industries.

Traditionally, a majority of members work in automotive. VDI-FVT is the German affiliate of the world federation of automotive engineers’ societies, FISITA, and it is the intellectual sponsor of many big conferences on automotive technology and thus fosters exchange and knowledge transfer both nationally and internationally. It also sponsors Formula Student Germany, awarding VDI membership to all German participants, and promotes other student competitions for transport engineers. VDI-FVT has recently reconstituted technical sections for rail and marine technologies, as well as space- and aircraft. It is putting a strong focus on transport and traffic in general and aims to mediate between technology and society.
