International VDI Workshop - Super Trends: Drivers of U.S. Political Risk

Autonomous Driving

The international VDI workshop "Super Trends: Drivers of U.S. Political Risk" provides an overview of current political developments in the USA and shows possible challenges and risks for your company. You will learn, among other things, how the USA assesses economic developments in China and what this means for future economic policy decisions. This workshop will help you to better understand the different political discussions in the US and to draw the right conclusions for your transatlantic business or your subsidiaries in the US.

What political risks are companies facing in the USA?

This workshop provides an overview of the powerful currents that shape the U.S. political landscape, drive policy outcomes, and impact corporate decision making. The confluence of Political Risk Super Trends now unfolding portends increasing political volatility. Resulting in an unpredictable legislative and regulatory environment for companies.

The in-depth analysis by workshop chair Jonathan M. Baron is based on almost two decades of experience in the assessment of political risks for top companies in the USA – including members of the Fortune 10 and some of the nation’s largest privately-held firms. It involves discussions with over a thousand leading decision-makers, experts and opinion leaders from politics and business. During the workshop, you can actively contribute questions from your company to the discussion.

The workshop takes place one day before the international VDI conference "Autonomous Trucks". If you book both events together, you will benefit from a reduced price.

The following topics will be addressed, among others:

Introduction

  • Overview of current U.S. political landscape as shaped by the defining feature of social capital collapse.

Breakout Sessions – Planned topics include:

  • China Delenda Est: Both the American Right and the Left appear determined to thwart China’s increasing global influence, forcing global companies to re-orient their China market strategy.
  • Industrialism: The electoral revolution of 2016 positioned the Midwest, and therefore the industrial economy, at the center of the U.S. political conversation.
  • Labor Force Constraints: Rather than face the conventional problem of workers without jobs, U.S. companies suffer the more worrisome challenge of jobs without workers.
  • Escapism: Consumer decisions are elevated as people increasingly assign moral parameters to products and companies.
  • Soft Nationalization: An expanded application of the 1998 Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement, “soft nationalization” threatens entire industries with massive regulation that ensures dominant firms avoid competition from innovators unable to bear compliance costs.
  • The Rock Creek Rebellion: Deregulation becomes nearly impossible under a “resistance” of legal and regulatory elites in Washington, D.C.
  • Crony cannibalism: The proliferation of market participants seeking to leverage policy to undermine competitors rather than offering superior value threatens destructive consequences for American innovation and economic growth.

Discussion and conclusion

  • Potential for the further Political Isolation of Corporate America.
