Workshop

International VDI Workshop - Role of the SOTIF for Highly Automated Driving (HAD)

Autonomous or partially autonomous cars must be able to master a seemingly unlimited number of potentially dangerous situations. The new international standard ISO 21448 “Road Vehicles – Safety of Intended functionality“ (SOTIF) was developed to secure the required driving functions reliably and verifiably. The VDI Role of SOTIF for Highly Automated Driving Workshop will give you an overview of the content, structure and guiding principles of the standard and will show you in practice what you need to consider when implementing it.

SOTIF is a basic requirement for safe highly automated driving

The last several years have shown that the safety of set functions are an essential prerequisite for highly automated driving. It’s not enough to simply ensure the safety of individual functions and systems, however. All the processes and associated disciplines focused on the development and implementation of autonomous driving functions need to be looked at and integrated into safety concerns holistically. This is an extremely complex challenge that can only be mastered with the help and participation of all departments involved, even if they have not necessarily worked on safety-related areas beforehand.

The practically oriented VDI Role of SOTIF for Highly Automated Driving Workshop will bring your knowledge in the area of SOTIF up to date. Amongst other things, you’ll learn how to achieve the SOTIF goals for the development process defined in the standard and how to adopt appropriate verification and validation measures to check and ensure the compliance of the safety of set options. You’re also emphatically encouraged to bring questions and challenges from your own company and actively contribute to the design of this international workshop.

The workshop is a ‘crash course’ in SOTIF and supports the two-day international Safety Assurance for Highly Automated Driving Conference taking place two days later. You can profit from a reduced combination price if you book both events together.

Content of the Workshop

The English language VDI Role of SOTIF for Highly Automated Driving Workshop will consider the following themes, amongst others:

  • The ODD in an “Open World”
  • The multiple analytic views needed for the SOTIF
  • The life-cycle of the intended function
  • Verification and validation strategies
  • Scenario approaches as a guiding theme
  • Release and acceptance
  • SOTIF implications on field observation

Target Audience

The VDI Role of SOTIF for Highly Automated Driving Workshop is aimed at professionals and management in the areas of automotive safety with a focus on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving. Managers and technical experts that want to learn about the new ISO 21448 standard “Road vehicles – Safety of the intended functionality” and its implementation will profit from this workshop in particular.
