As has been usual over the last several years, decision makers from around the world met at PIAE 2018. They used the world’s largest automotive congress for plastics in automotive engineering as an information, discussion and networking platform. This year, the main theme revolved around the requirements placed upon the plastics industry by automotive megatrends. There were presentations from the areas of interiors, exteriors, lightweight engineering, design and e-mobility.
Commercial vehicles were also covered this year with an entire series of presentations. This has become a popular part of the congress over the last few years, just like the ‘Automotive Night’ evening get-together.
With over 1,400 participants and 120 exhibitors from 14 countries, the event is firmly rooted in its successful 40-year history, even with its new name. Its international orientation is reflected in this new nomenclature as well (formerly known as PIA – plastics in automotive construction and now PIAE – Plastics in Automotive Engineering). This has given PIAE a substantial boost in visitor numbers from abroad.
In 2019 PIAE will take place from the 03rd to the 4th of April in Mannheim
2018 saw our first interactive discussion session, what we call the World Café. This allowed small groups of participants to discuss the challenges of automotive and societal trends driving plastic applications in vehicles. Key themes on the agenda were the effects of autonomous driving on interiors and the influence of electrification on plastic applications, as well as technological solutions for shared mobility. The World Café is part of the program in 2019 with new themes and discussions – be a part of it and join the conversation!
